Gibson Electric has reported that a downed line has caused outages for 878 homes and businesses in and around Troy, west of Rives and southwest of Union City in Obion County.

More than 17,000 AT&T workers in nine states across the Southeast are on strike. The Communications Workers of America represents the striking employees and says workers walked off the job Friday in response to AT&T’s failure to bargain in good faith. The labor organization says AT&T did not send representatives to the bargaining table who had authority to make decisions. AT&T says the accusations are “not grounded in fact.”

Dirt track race car driver Scott Bloomquist has died in a plane crash in Tennessee. The sheriff's office in Hawkins County said a small plane went down Friday into a barn in Mooresburg. The sole person in the aircraft who died is believed to be Bloomquist. He was 60. Bloomquist stood out with his long hair and swagger. His race car had been emblazoned with the number zero as well as a skull and crossbones. He was also well-known for winning. Bloomquist was inducted into the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame in 2002.

Tennessee state Rep. Gloria Johnson has won the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate and will face off against Republican Sen. Marsha Blackburn in November, pitting a survivor of a Republican-led expulsion effort over a gun control protest against a close ally of former President Donald Trump. Johnson defeated three primary opponents, including Marquita Bradshaw, a Memphis community activist and organizer who notably won the Democratic Senate nomination in 2020 then lost to Republican Bill Hagerty by a wide margin. Tennessee’s primary will also determine whether Republican Rep. Andy Ogles will be able to defeat a well-funded opponent, Nashville council member Courtney Johnston, as he pursues a second term in Tennessee’s 5th Congressional District.

Strong thunderstorms brought flash flooding to Dolly Parton’s Dollywood in east Tennessee. Park officials say workers and the Pigeon Forge police and fire departments directed guests to safety on Sunday afternoon and one minor injury was reported. The amusement park says it was supporting guests whose vehicles were affected and cleanup crews were deployed. The Pigeon Forge Police Department said Sunday that a road collapse closed McCarter Hollow Road at the entrance to Dollywood.

Now, a complaint has been filed under the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.

An autopsy shows that a Fort Campbell soldier found dead in her home had been stabbed nearly 70 times. The body of 23-year-old Pfc. Katia Dueñas Aguilar was found in her Tennessee home in May. An investigation is ongoing but no arrests have been made. The soldier's family and The League of United Latin American Citizens have offered a reward of $55,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

Remnants of the storm will include heavy rains, high winds, severe storms and flooding stretching from south-central Illinois into parts of lower Michigan, and FEMA stresses that it’s important for residents to take action now to stay safe.
