UNION City, Tenn. — Students and faculty at Union City Schools celebrated a successful first day Thursday as children headed back after summer vacation.
A news release from Union City Schools said principals at the elementary, middle, and high schools reported a smooth first day for the roughly 1,700 students.
"Everywhere I looked, I saw smiling faces. Our teachers and administrators immediately made our students feel at ease and welcomed, and our students showed up with great attitudes and ready to learn," said Director of Schools Wes Kennedy. "I truly believe it’s going to be a fantastic school year."
Teachers and other staff were on hand to direct students to their classrooms and ease first-day anxieties.
"It was really good to see our students again and that helped make it a great day," Union City Middle School Principal Lance Morgan said.
"The first day of school is always special. This year was no different," said Union City Elementary School Principal Allison Palmer. "To see those smiling faces come into the building and see their parents beaming with pride was priceless."
