MURRAY, Ky. -- The home for Murray State Racer basketball will soon get a massive facelift. The school announced plans for renovating the inside of the CFSB Center at Thursday's annual Board of Regents Retreat.

"It was long overdue," Murray State Director of Athletics Nico Yantko. "As this building came about, there was a lot of features that did not resemble what a modern or a basketball arena you would anticipate would support in the fan aspect, in the player development aspect."

Yantko spotlighted the lack of premium seating options, including courtside seating and suites as some of the deficiencies in the arena, which opened in 1998. This would mark the first major renovation project since the arena opened.

The new-look CFSB Center no longer will have empty spaces on the corners of the arena, designs show the arena completely bowled in, with corner and courtside seats added in addition to what Yantko calls "first of its kind" bunker clubs.

In total, around 1,000 premium seats are expected to be installed. The arena capacity is expected to be the the same.

"There was a lot of things through this process that we had to address, and identify and create opportunities," Yantko said. "We got a lot of work ahead of us but the good news is that the vision is now becoming a reality."

In addition to the seating and suites, new player development and academic spaces will be built, including an NIL Studio, nutrition oasis and a rehab/prehab space.

Yantko said the cost of the renovation would be eight figures, with the majority of the funds already provided in donations. The final plan will be presented to the board for approval in December, in addition to a timeline.

"It's certainly not something that is an easy plug and play type of scenario," Yantko said. "We're really going to have to take some time and get it right and getting it right is the most important part, but the cool part of this is it's not just words now, this is a reality and we're moving forward and we're looking forward to the final board approval in December."
