MARTIN, TN -- For Westview freshman quarterback Graham Simpson, his high school debut last week was even better than he could have dreamed of.

"I didn't think throwing seven touchdowns is what would happen in that game," Simpson said. "I dream of playing NFL ball, college ball, but just getting to that high school level was what I was waiting for."

It was a highly anticipated debut.

But that comes with being the son of UT martin head coach Jason Simpson, and younger brother of former Mr Football winner Ty Simpson.

"Kind of been dreaming about that game for a long time, since Ty was a freshman," said Graham. "After my first snap the butterflies just popped right out of my stomach and I was like, lets go."

It was really a weight off of his shoulders considering those lofty expectations for just a freshman.

And Graham has figure out how to deal with it.

"I kind of play my game," he said. "I don't have to play the game how Ty did. Sometimes I am not known for being as fast as him or being as strong as him, but I still play my game."

"Ty gives him a hard time about it, from the standpoint of we all keep him humble," said Jason Simpson. "Graham is a good kid, and he understands that there are good players out there and there are a lot of things he needs to work on. I am excited for him, it was fun. Hopefully he will have an opportunity to keep getting better here weekly."

Echoing his father and brother before him, Graham knows there is still infinite more work to put in.

"You can always get better," Graham said. "You can have perfection with mechanics, but you can always get better throughout the game. Coming from week one, you make a lot of mistakes, and you can fix those throughout the next week. Hopefully there is more to come in the next couple of weeks."

Simpson and the Chargers will take the field for their second game of the season on Friday night when they travel to face Obion Central.
