CARBONDALE, Ill. — According to the Carbondale Police Department, on September 2 at 1:36 a.m., officers monitoring a large gathering of individuals in a parking lot in the 700 block of East Grand Avenue witnessed a fight break out.
Officers subsequently dispersed the crowd and attempted to arrest those involved — one of the individuals arrested was later identified as 19-year-old Tommy Garner of Carbondale.
According to the police, Garner made threats toward officers and attempted to pull away from them while he reached toward the waistline of his pants. Officers were eventually able to take Garner into custody and located a firearm in Garner’s pants that had been previously reported out of Chicago.
Garner was charged with aggravated unlawful use of weapons, possession of a stolen firearm, unlawful possession of firearm and firearm ammunition, resisting a peace officer, and threatening a public official.
Garner has been incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail.
