Part of the 2024 class to the Murray State Hall of Fame, Racer Great and NBA superstar Ja Morant will be honored at Racer Hoopalooza on July 27 at the CFSB Center in Murray, Kentucky.
Details on the July 27 event will be announced later.
From 2017-19, the 65 games of Morant's two-year career with the Racers are remembered greatly as the Dalzell, South Carolina phenom was part of an amazing run in which the Racers won a pair of Ohio Valley Conference regular season and tournament championships and made two NCAA Tournament appearances while racking up 56 victories.
After a successful freshman season in which Morant was named All-OVC, he came back even better in the 2018-19 season. Morant earned OVC Player of the Year honors and became the first consensus All-America selection in Murray State history.
Morant led the nation with 10.0 assists per game and became the first player since assists became official in 1983-84 to average 20 points and 10 assists per game.
In his two seasons at Murray State, Morant set the Racers' career record for assists (532) in 46 fewer games than when Don Mann became the record holder (531) in 1989. Morant's career scoring average of 18.7 points per game ranks him 12th all-time at MSU.
His 1,213 points puts him 31st all-time at MSU, but fourth among two-year players just behind Stark's (2016-18) 1,408 points, De'Teri Mayes' (1996-98) 1,340 points and Cameron Payne's (2013-15) 1,279 points. All three preceded Morant to the Murray State Hall of Fame.
In the summer of 2019, Morant was selected by the Memphis Grizzlies as the second overall pick in the NBA Draft.
The remaining members of the 42nd class to the MSU Hall of Fame will be honored in early 2025 at a date to be determined.
The 2024 class includes: Daniel Calhoun (Baseball, 2006-09), Becca Lamb (Volleyball, 2007-10), Coach Velvet Milkman (Women's Golf, 1993-22), Ja Morant (Men's Basketball, 2017-19), Miyah Watford (Women's Soccer, 2017-19), Quincy Williams (Football, 2014-18) and Jack Wolf (Football, 1967-71).
The event marks the second MSU Hall of Fame induction at Racer Hoopalooza, after Jonathan Stark was honored in 2023.
2013 marked the first Racer Hoopalooza when Coach Steve Prohm brought the idea to life. The event created an immediate connection between players and coaches across all eras of the program and with the loyal Racer fanbase.
