CHARLESTON, Mo. — On July 1, there were reports of six people shot near the intersection of Vine Street and Sy Williams Street. On July 12, the perpetrator was charged.
Initial reports of the incident stated that 6 people had been shot, but according to the Charleston Department of Public Safety, during the investigation it was determined that the actual number of victims was 5. The injuries were not life-threatening.
After working with several area agencies, formal charges were filed and a warrant without bond was issued in Mississippi County for 24-year-old Deshauntay Craig of Sikeston, MO.
Craig has been charged with 5 counts of first-degree assault, 5 counts of armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a stolen vehicle.
Craig is currently incarcerated in the Butler County Jail on unrelated charges.
