The Salvation Army calls themselves an evangelical part of the Universal Christian Church. Their mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and meet human needs in his name without discrimination.
During the winter holidays, the Salvation Army works to raise money with their Red Kettle Campaign, which dates back to 1891 and helps raise money for people in need.
According to the Salvation Army website, the donations they collect during the holiday season help them provide gifts to children who would otherwise go without. Those donations will also help the Salvation Army provide food, shelter, and utility assistance to those who need it most throughout the year.
The Salvation Army says that every dollar dropped into a red kettle helps give local families the Christmases they deserve, and the yearlong support they need.
The people who run the kettles are volunteers, and they’re always needed. To volunteer with the Salvation Army as a bell ringer click here. To make a donation to the Red Kettle Campaign, click here.
