WINGO, KY — On Thursday, a woman took to Facebook to ask people for help identifying a man in a grainy, black and white security camera photo. She said around the time he pulled into her driveway, her dog disappeared — returning later with injuries so severe its eyes had to be surgically removed.

The security camera video captured a man. However, the camera did not show him picking up or dropping off the dog.

The Graves County Sheriff's Office is investigating what happened — and deputies want help from the public to identify a man caught on the pet owner's security camera.

The pet owner reported that her dog was on her property in Wingo, Kentucky when it disappeared. She said someone came on her property and dropped off the dog almost 24 hours later, with blunt force trauma to the head. A man was captured on her security camera, but was not recorded picking up or dropping off the pet.

"We're trying to check into every possibility that maybe something happened with him and the dog, the dog could've been in the road, got struck by a vehicle, got struck by his vehicle, he came up to make notification, no one was there, no one came to the door," said Jeremy Prince, the chief deputy with the Graves County Sheriff's Office.

Graves County Chief Deputy Jeremy Prince said Monday there was no proof that anyone took the dog from her property, and it was unclear whether someone abused the dog or hit the dog with a car. Prince said deputies don't have pictures, video or other evidence or witness statements related to the case.

"We're trying to check into every possibility that maybe something happened with him and the dog. The dog could've been in the road, got struck by a vehicle — got struck by his vehicle. He came up to make notification, no one was there, no one came to the door," Prince said.

Prince said the dog is alive and recovering after surgery.
