PADUCAH, KY — The big race for Merryman House's Paducky Derby finished today, and people waited in anticipation as rubber ducks floated toward the finish line.

Merryman House is an organization that serves survivors of domestic violence, and the money raised from the event went toward the services they provide for the community.

Three lucky people left the event as a winner.

The first-place winner for $2,500 was the Benton Women's Club.

The second-place winner for $1,000 was Shivaun Sweet; the third-place winner for $500 was Richard Scott.

While not everyone walked away with hundreds to thousands of dollars, everyone who participated walked away knowing they contributed to a great cause.

Even during all the fun and excitement, people with the Merryman House say it's important to remember why they're doing this.

The Director of Community Engagement at the Merryman House, Kayla Myers, says, "There are going to be people that you know at home, in your church, in your workplace that you may never know are survivors, but when you stand up and support an event like this, or an organization like Merryman House, they see that support, and that might make you a safe person to turn to."
